What is Compulsory Traffic Insurance?

Compulsory Traffic Insurance is a compulsory insurance that must be taken out by every vehicle owner and provides coverage for bodily and material damages that may be caused to the other party in the event of damage.
Vehicles that do not have Compulsory Traffic Insurance cannot drive on the road. This type of insurance is valid within the borders of the Republic of Turkey. Compulsory Traffic Insurance does not cover the damage of the vehicle it is made, it only covers the damage of the other vehicle it damages.

What Does Compulsory Traffic Insurance Cover?

Traffic Insurance is a valuable assurance covered by compulsory insurance. In order to make the most of this coverage, you need to know the coverage limits of Compulsory Traffic Insurance. Within the scope of compulsory traffic insurance, the coverage for each vehicle is the same, but the coverage limits vary according to vehicle types. The guarantees provided in Compulsory Traffic Insurance are as follows:

  • Death and treatment per person: In the event of a claim, the death and treatment expenses payable for each third party are covered up to the limits stated in the policy.
  • Death and treatment per accident: In the event of a claim, it covers the total death and treatment costs of all third parties up to the limits specified in the policy.

What is the Difference Between Compulsory Traffic Insurance and Compulsory Motor Insurance?

Compulsory Traffic Insurance and motor insurance are two separate products that cover completely different risks. While traffic insurance covers the other party’s damages in the event of an accident, motor insurance covers your damages. While traffic insurance is compulsory, motor insurance is optional.

Is No Claim Discount Applied in Compulsory Traffic Insurance Policy?

If there is no damage within a 1year policy period, you will start to receive a noclaim discount on your traffic insurance starting with 10%. At the end of each policy period, if there is no damage, this discount continues to increase by 5% and you can earn a noclaims discount up to 45%, which is the highest step.

What is the Penalty for Not Having Compulsory Traffic Insurance?

  • Drivers who do not have the specified Compulsory Traffic Insurance face penal sanctions.
  • Vehicle owners who do not get their traffic insurance on time will lose the chance to get a discount on their policy, even if they “do not have any accidents”.
  • If the policy is not taken out or renewed, a delay penalty of 5% is applied for each month of delay.
  • If a vehicle without insurance is detected by traffic teams, the vehicle is banned from traffic by taking it to the parking lot with the help of a tow truck, and the vehicle is kept in the parking lot until the vehicle owner takes out traffic insurance.
  • In this case, the vehicle owner is obliged to pay both the towing fee and the parking fee for the day the vehicle stays in the parking lot.
